My brother just gifted me GTA:V on Steam since it was on sale. It’s 60+GB and I’m downloading at about 3.5MB/s. =(

I’d love to have 10.2MB/s speeds, but I’m pretty sure I’d have to find a girlfriend, get married, have a child, and then give my ISP my firstborn child just for a month of service. A woman that can crank out one child per month is a rare find.

How much do you pay for internet?

I have a 25/25 connection, unlimited bandwidth, for $117 (Canadian) including taxes.

Ouch. I have Verizon Fios 50/50 for $40 (US). Does 117 include TV channels and phone?

Can’t even get close to those prices around here, although now that I think about it, I’m paying for unlimited usage which I did make use of before but haven’t recently. I could trade up to a much faster package with sufficient bandwidth for a similar price.

To put things in perspective, to get a 100/10 (no cap) cable connection here is $85 + tax (which is 13%) and the fiber option is 150/50 (500GB cap) for $86 + tax. This discussion makes me think the 150/50 fiber option will suit my needs nicely instead of a 25/25 no cap connection.

LTE is decent here, but 6GB a month costs me $56 and change, everything else is unlimited. This is a REALLY good plan around here, most of my friends pay a lot more for a lot less.

Thanks to our discussion I’m switching to a 150/50 fiber connection capped at 500GB for less than what I’m paying now. After reviewing my usage it turns out I really wasn’t making use of the unlimited bandwidth (I used to use a lot more) so the 500GB cap turns out to be plenty.

I kind of wish I discovered this BEFORE spending a whole evening downloading GTA:V. In any case, Fallout will be following soon - I hope you're enjoying it! Also, how big is the download?

I am but isn’t installing fiber expensive?

I live in a new development - it's the Bell Fibe service (which is fibre to home, as far as I know) and my 25/25 connection is running off of it already. It turns out I can log into my ISP settings online, asked to change the package and it should become effective tomorrow. I already have the modem needed and installation was done previously, so it turns out no one even needs to come to the home. I guess people flip a few switches or press some buttons and I go from 25/25 to 150/50.

I’m grandfathered in with verizon for unlimited LTE on a hotspot. Speeds are so unreliable though. When I first got 40-90 mb down, now I get 3-12
